Visiting Hours & Guidelines
We are committed to providing a positive experience that encompasses health, safety, comfort and convenience. We ask that all UDMC visitors observe the following guidelines:
| Department Unit | Visiting Hours |
| General Nursing Units | 10:00 am to 8:00 pm In the maternity unit, the father and/or children or designated support person may visit anytime. Approval of Attending Physician for patients in the Isolation unit/room |
| Intensive and Critical Care Unit | 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. |
| Neonatal Intensive Care Unit | Anytime for parents. Friends/ family member may see the newborn at the viewing window anytime upon the parent’s approval |
- During the flu season and public health situations/emergencies such as a pandemic, visiting hours and visitation practices may be amended to reflect infection control safety concerns. The Infection Prevention and Control Committee may recommend restriction in visitation and or additional procedures prior to visitation.
- Gift balloons are welcome provided they are made of the shiny plastic known as Mylar. Latex balloons, which can cause allergic reactions, are not permitted anywhere in the hospital. Helium-filled balloons are considered fire hazards and are therefore not allowed.
- Bringing live plants or flowers is strongly discouraged in the Oncology/ critical care units as such causes allergic reaction.

The Maximum number of visitors are as follows:
- Private rooms - 4 persons at a time
- Ward/ semi-private - 2 persons at a time
- For safety reasons, children below seven (7) years old are discouraged to visit.
- To uphold patient’s right to privacy, hospital staff reserves the right to limit visitation.
After Visiting Hours Guidelines
Generally, strict observance of the visiting hours is expected at all times. However, for certain cases where visits (beyond visiting hours) are allowed at the discretion of the Nurse Shift Supervisor/Officer on the basis of patient’s request and /or condition.
